Liquid crystal displays, the multitude of OLED variants, and most other flat panel display technologies rely on transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) to transport current and to serve as the anode for each light emitting element. Like any thin-film process, it is an important advantage to know the thickness of the layers that form the display. For LCDs, this requires a way to measure the polyimide and LC layers, while for OLEDs it requires measuring the emitting, injecting, and encapsulation layers. In measuring any multilayer stack, optical techniques such as spectral reflectance and ellipsometry require the thickness and optical constants (index and k) of every layer in the stack to be either measured or accurately modeled. Unfortunately, the special characteristics of ITO and other TCOs that make them useful for display applications have also made these layers a challenge to measure and to model, thus rendering difficult the measurement of any material placed on top of them. Application NotesThe Filmetrics ITO SolutionFilmetrics has developed a simple and affordable solution for accurate ITO measurements using spectral reflectance. The solution is the result of the combination of a new ITO model with the wide 400-1700nm wavelength range of the F20-EXR, which provides robust "one-click" analysis of ITO. Once the ITO layer is characterized, the path is open for the analysis of the remaining display layers. Whether you are involved in basic research or manufacturing of displays, Filmetrics can deliver the capabilities that you need…
